    About the Book

    Edit

This slim and modestly priced book provides a nostalgic look back to the Isle of Man in 1977, when the Douglas - Port Erin railway was still privately owned and before rationalisation of the Douglas station area took place. as well as the (then) green liveried Beyer Peacock 2-4-0 tank locomotives, this book also takes a brief look at the Manx Electric Railway, the Douglas Horse tramway, the Snaeffel Mountain railway. In essence, it is what it's title proclaims it to be. But unlike most railway nostalgia books, it is all available today. But somehow, these days back before it was all promoted as a tourist operation, adds a bit more of a :real deal" feel.
The rear cover features a 'crossing shot' of two horse drawn trams, surely a first in a railway book?
