About the Author

Friendly Rich Marsella is a first-generation Italian-Canadian whose parents are from the province of Frosinone, Italy. They came to Canada, like many, through Pier 21 in Halifax in the 1950s, on a boat named Saturnia, before settling in Toronto and Montréal. Rich grew up in the suburbs of Toronto, where he founded the Brampton Indie Arts Festival and wrote music for The Tom Green Show on MTV. He has since released twelve studio recordings, most recently The Great Blue Heron featuring Kevin Breit and Hawksley Workman. He is pursuing a Ph.D. in music education at the University of Toronto, where he was mentored by composer R. Murray Schafer. He was pen pals with Karlheinz Stockhausen, who once sent a classic German letter that simply read: “… transform Canada.”

Friendly Rich and Gregory Pepper have collaborated on one prior book, How To Play Your World, published by Musagetes. Learn more about Friendly Rich’s music andwriting at friendlyrich.com
