    About the Ebook

CONVERSING WITH BIRDS is an illustrated narrative poem that recounts the author's internal conflict and eventual escape from a career as a tax enforcer which, though meaningful and necessary, he no longer had the heart to continue. It is written as an allegorical autobiography wherein the characters are wolves, wizards and a dragon, and the story is advanced by dialogues arising from encounters with a series of birds.

The last half of the book consists of 30 full page color plates of Alaskan landscape art and wildflower, bird and animal images from the scenic Kenai Lake region around Cooper Landing, Alaska. The entire book, including all art plates, is available for previewing in its paper version on the Blurb website. Only the first 30% of the eBook is available for previewing per Blurb's policy.

    Elmo Baker
    Anchorage, Alaska USA

ELMO BAKER is the author's white-capped pionus parrot. Because the author's name was already being used by someone else, a Blurb account was set up in Elmo's name--making Elmo the author of record on Blurb's system. We may as well have a little fun with it here. STEPHEN P. BAKER is a retired I.R.S. attorney who has lived in Alaska since 1975. After 36 years of enforcing the civil and criminal tax codes at I.R.S., Stephen has finally found peace and a career that he prefers--feeding Elmo corn and peas each morning and changing his cage paper at night. Stephen currently lives with his family and Elmo in Anchorage and writes out of his cabin near Kenai Lake at Cooper Landing.
