About the Creator
In my hometown of Donkin, Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, I began volunteering as a firefighter at eighteen years old. I loved the adrenaline rush when responding to a call, and felt a great sense of purpose in helping others and working together as a department. I continued to volunteer for five years with the vision of becoming a professional firefighter. In my twenties, I put aside my dream of becoming a firefighter, as life brought me around the world as a carpenter and into my current profession, teaching. During my years of travel, I developed a passion for photography. I particularly enjoy capturing people in candid moments and unique environments. After making a connection with the Flin Flon Fire Chief, Chad Cooper, in 2018, I leapt at the opportunity to document the work of this fire department, so much of which goes unseen by the public. Through this collaboration, I was able to combine my passion for documentary photography with my experience, and interest, in firefighting.
