    About the Book

    Edit

This book illustrates a technique of painting with light. I have chosen trees to be the main subject of this particular form of photography, because of the myriad of patterns and abstracted images made possible by their complex, diverse yet repeating shape and configuration.

Trees are one of the most pleasing ways of fractal expression inside nature. Camera movements are applied with a specific mood in mind, relative to every shot and composition taken. Because of the fact that sometimes a single composition was not enough to carry the intended feeling, mostly because of its more abstract nature or its difficult to control or match pattern, because of the many experiments made over time, but mostly because of the need for a better form of expression and the inherent and almost demanding possibility of combining different photographs, the compositions were born. They came to life under the guise of triptychs and diptychs, panel doors and chain panels; and in this, a resolution larger than a normal digital camera would perform was achieved, enabling large format printing.

The long exposure images you see in this book are not altered in imaging software in any way beyond the usual corrections and enhancements. The vivid, eary and unworldly colors of part of the compositions are achieved by using one or a combination of special filters. Be they burning slowly or as in an inferno, be they blue with melancholy, faded out in bronze gradients or bleached by the winter snow, the moved trees embody the freezing of time-space inside part of the nature surrounding us, a vision only accessible to the human eye, through the lens of the camera.

    Daniel Munteanu
    Sibiu, Romania

“I have always searched for a means to bridge my images and words over the gap in my own mind or in the minds of others. Thus, in the absence of wizardry, I found tools such as the written letter, the spoken word and the depicted image.” Digital artist, involved in both photography and computer graphics, also a creative writer and young poet, Daniel Munteanu has started an eclectic art project manifesto on his own, and has searched for a rarely found means of expression, keeping a more traditional and holistic form of work and creation in an ever expanding all out digital age. His works respect a certain purity of making and principle, a slow and steady advance into an organic, surreal and sometimes childish fantasy. His works were rewarded recognition in awards and mentions in international competitions, with some online and print publication.
