Nelson Christopher Ala’s photography portrays his personal experiences as a long time resident of NYC. His fascination with architecture and the evolution of a city, inspired his own personal journey of change. From conquering inner demons, to fathering his son and eventually adapting to new a new way of life following the loss of his leg. Nelson’s journey like many other New Yorkers his age is caught between a certain nostalgia for the past and fascination for the future. Nelson is a Filipino American who grew up in the East Coast D.I.Y. sub cultures of the punk rock and skateboarding scenes where participants regularly evolved into de facto documentarians. He has been shooting with a variety of camera equipment over many years amassing a diverse portfolio reflective of his experiences. Currently he documents the newest chapters of his life and landscape, always inspired by the ever changing energy of New York City.
