About the Book
The photos in this book were taken in a former police prison (the "Klapperfeld") in Frankfurt in the afternoon of Sept 29, 2007.
The building used to serve as a police custody facility since 1888 before it was closed down and emptied both of inmates as well as most furnishings in 2003. It had been deserted for more than three years until the Deutsche Architekturmuseum hosted its exhibition "Custody - Spaces of surveillance" there between 22nd April and 30th September 2007 - an act that re-opened the facility again for half a year - this time to the curious public.
The future of the building which is still owned by the county of Hessen is largely unclear: It will either be demolished or sold to private investors. For the time being, it is inaccessible again.
