In September, 2018, 26 pilgrims from Christ Church Cathedral, Houston, joined 2 pilgrims from New Zealand and 4 more from Australia in a 10-day program at St. George’s College, Jerusalem, titled “Footsteps of Jesus.” Led by the extraordinary Reverend Canon Mary June Nestler, the program’s objective was to study the life and ministry of Jesus of Nazareth through biblical study and theological reflection in the sites associated with his life. Exploring the Holy Land as Christian pilgrims added layers of meaning and insight not possible by merely visiting historical sites. Following the program, 13 of the Cathedral pilgrims continued on to Jordan. Not commonly thought of as part of the ‘Holy Land’, Jordan offers its own biblical sites as well as the more frequently visited Petra and Wadi Rum.
