The World Cup is the most amazing happening in the world. No other event can bring together people from diverse backgrounds and different nationalities to celebrate a common passion: soccer (or football as it is known in much of the world).

Photojournalist Douglas Zimmerman spent the past sixteen years documenting the soccer fans at the World Cup from Korea to Russia. Although there would be no World Cup without the teams on the field, the real passion for football can be seen by the fanatics that fill the stands cheering on their national sides. It is their intensity and devotion that makes the event so unique and special.

Through his work, he discovered the fans of different countries mutual affection for 'the beautiful game,' can break down the walls that separate us helping us develop a greater understanding and awareness of one another.

He hopes his photographs share with a broader audience how soccer (football) fans can make the world a better and more understanding place.
