    About the Book

    Edit

Taken over 24 years of traveling to India, this book shows both the day to day life of Indians, but also some of the spectacular events that take place there every year: such as the Republic Day Parade in New Delhi and Holi, the Festival of Colors, around Mathura, Uttar Pradesh. Harrington travels from one end of the subcontinent to the other, from the Himalayas to the tropics of southern India. A land of great contrasts, India has, outside its main cities, largely escaped the modern influences of Western culture until the last several generations. Beyond the most well known destinations of Agra, home to the Taj Mahal, and nearby Rajasthan, are so many fascinating places and peoples to see and meet. I’ve had the great fortune to see and explore the subcontinent from one end to the other. In 2013, I toured the Himalayan regions of India, as well as Nepal and Tibet, staying for five weeks at altitudes between 12,000 and 18,000 feet. Photos in this book include the states of Himachal Pradesh, Kashmir and Ladakh, and Sikkim and West Bengal in the North; the massive metropolises of Mumbai and Delhi; the southern states of Kerala; Tamil Nadu; Goa; Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh; the most populous state, Uttar Pradesh; Punjab, home to the Sikh religion’s Golden Temple at Amritsar.
