Kali Tal's 2008-2009 Catalog features two exhibitions: Short Circuit Stories, and Stations of the Cross.



Discarded computer circuit boards and RAM chips are the basis of the short stories Tal tells in each of these pieces. Once the height of high-end technology, they are now worthless for their original purpose, despite the complex and detailed work that went into their creation. They serve as a foundation metaphor for Tal's commentary on contemporary society, politics, and religion.



The boards and chips are decorated with found objects, semi-precious stones, charms, and costume jewelry, through techniques of collage and assemblage. The arbitrary nature of "worth" is reflected in the combination of precious and junk adornment. Tal chooses specific, highly symbolic decorative objects, and arranges them in a manner that stimulates viewers to make up their own stories about each piece, relying on the audience's ability to assemble whole narratives out of partial clues.
