    About the Book

    Edit

It takes a little bit of madness to go racing for 25 hours straight. And the real story happens before the podium. It's the camaraderie, the preparation, the teamwork, the tradition, and so much more. “Behind the 25” delves into what makes the 25 Hours of Thunderhill so special, and why teams come back year after year to do battle with the beast.⁓⁓⁓ Get ready for 80 pages of 25-Hour stories told at full volume: in high resolution, in full color, and at a size that will absolutely pull you into the experience. At 10 inches tall by 8 inches wide (for 16"-wide spreads), it's convenient to hold in the hand, but still large enough to convey the fine details in every moment.⁓⁓⁓ So yes. It takes a little bit of madness to do battle with the 25. But by connecting the big picture to the details that hide in plain sight, “Behind the 25” captures and shares some of the method behind that madness.

I fell in love with cars in the mid-90’s — I grew up on the original Need for Speed racing game. My interest in all forms of motorsports soon followed. Then in 2002, I got my first camera for Christmas, and I’ve spent the 15 years since then learning how to tell people’s stories. I think of myself as both documentary photographer and storyteller. For me, a picture should be meaningful, not just beautiful. It should capture a moment that is an introduction, rather than just an observation. If you can look at a photograph of mine and feel like you’re meeting the subjects, rather than just looking at them, then I’m moving in the right direction. The stories in "Behind the 25" are an attempt to draw an arc between what the race looked like during my first race, back in 2012, and what it looks like now. The race has changed, and I’ve also changed. But I still return.
