Every summer thousands of people gather for two weeks of medieval reenacting—dressing, playing, dancing, performing, crafting, and yes, battling in the ways of cultures from around the world dating from the fall of Rome through the reign of Elizabeth I. Living in what the Society for Creative Anachronism calls “These Modern Middle Ages” is a truly immersive experience. These photographs represent twelve years of the author’s experiences attending this amazing event.
