About the Book
Galapagos
The very name "Galapagos" conjures up a picture of exotic, faraway islands teaming with wildlife and wonderful landscapes. A place distant from the hurly-burly of the over-populated cities of our world. A place to escape to.
The Galapagos archipelago is an important and special place on this planet. Not only because this is where Charles Darwin laid the foundations of the modern theory of evolution by natural selection, but because of it's large number of endemic species and what it represents to the future of wildlife in this tenuous biosphere and other endangered areas of the world. Much is being done to preserve the fauna and flora of these small isolated islands but the encroachment of human occupation and tourism is making this more and more difficult to achieve.
This book is the result of a short, four day visit to six of the islands that constitute the Galapagos archipelago and gives just a glimpse of the wonders to be found there.
