    About the Book

    Edit

Red. Earth and brick. And rust. Red is the dominant colour at the Monteponi mining site in the municipality of Iglesias (Cagliari, Italy). Founded in 1850 as a mining village for lead, silver and zinc extraction, Monteponi reached its peak of activity in the 1950s. Closed in the 1970s, it was recently secured under the aegis of IGEA Spa (formerly Società Italiana Miniere Spa), and today part of the Monteponi complex is home to the University of Sulcis Iglesiente. The area of the village that has not been reconverted to alternative uses is resisting the passage of time ... for how much is still uncertain. This photographic reportage aims to illustrate the history and industrial activity of Monteponi, as well as to preserve its memory, in the hope that it will serve as a trigger for a new and expanded redevelopment of the mining site.

Rosso. Terra e mattoni. E ruggine.
