AWARE*



When it was 105F in the garden one day in July the sun's burning disks descended to the ground.



All color was muted and structure was revealed in stark terms.



The battle between black and white exterminated any shade of gray.

Each element was forced to commit unreservedly to the dark or the light.



Shadows were flattened to the earth. Dark pools became darker under the assault from the white sky.



While the sun was at its zenith, the garden was burning alive with a seemingly inexhaustible fuel.
