About the Book
Jiang Qigu 蔣奇谷 (b. 1956) is a twenty-first century artist calling on legacies of Chinese painterly practice. Reflecting the indigenous painting tradition known as guohua 國畵, Jiang simultaneously recalls the rising globalism from over a century ago that inspired technical innovations in Chinese ink painting and new dynamisms of visual form. Such innovations took place at a time not unlike ours today, when artists faced the end of one world and the opening of another, the crumbling of dynastic power and the rise of revolutionary movement, the imposition of increased global trade and the rise of competing nations on a world stage.
