    About the Book

    Edit

Michelle is full of hot air. She can't believe that any boy in her school would not be falling all over himself to be her boyfriend, but the boy of her dreams falls for another girl - none other than Carly, the girl with asthma. The two girls are definitely not friends until a sudden accident opens Michelle's heart and mind.

This story highlights the importance of not judging a person because they have a health condition. It also de-stigmatizes the use of a puffer to treat asthma. Carly demonstrates that keeping her asthma in control through the use of medication allows her to live a normal, healthy lifestyle, which includes participation in sports.

    Ottawa, ON Canada

The Bedford Elementary Series is a unique series of health related Children's Books that deal with the social implications of very serious and common health conditions found in schools today. Topics include asthma, peanut allergy, venom allergy and ADHD/ADD. The target age is 4-8 years old. The goal of the series is to raise awareness and educate children on current health issues without sacrificing a good read. In addition, to ensure those impacted understand they are not alone and there are positive outcomes with support from others. The series of 4 books is an excellent tool for parents, educators and healthcare providers to ensure heightened awareness and provide a means to begin a dialogue to help those with the condition, and those who support and surround them. Check with your school library to ensure they carry it, or recommend it to your MD. The books are available in hard copy or as an EBook.
