    About the Book

    Edit

Más Paisa Que Una Arepa is a candid snapshot into how far Medellín has come since its darkest days. Medellín was, for a number of years in the early 1990s, proclaimed as The Most Dangerous City in the world with a homicide rate of 380 per 100,000 people.

Since the death of Pablo Escobar the city has gone through dramatic and positive changes including an integrated transport system. In 2013 Medellín was awarded the prize of Most Innovative City in the World and earlier in 2016 was deemed too safe to be on the list of the 50 Most Dangerous Cities.

This is a story of rebirth, of reinvention and of community. This book shows Medellín from many different angles, from the comunas to Barrio Triste which has been attacked scores of times by warring cartels and criminal gangs.

More than anything this book is honest and shows Medellín in a true light and without bias. The series of 66 photographs are shot in both black and white as well as colour.
