    About the Book

    Edit

    Idea
    – Everything is in process, is growing and dying in a never ending circle.
    – The four seasons are coming and going.
    – Water is the most interesting medium to show the flow of time.
    – Freezing water can develop most interesting textures.
    – The transparency of ice in contrast to the structure of snow.

    intention
For years Astrid has been working around water. One of her first works in this direction was the installation ‘852’ (1996) about the ‘Estonia’.
Since then she revolves around all aspects of water in her artwork:
the dangers, the matrix/basis of all life on earth, the silence,
the flux, the means of transportation, the salt and more.
In Hamburg she had no possibility to work with the aspect of freezing because of the mild winters.
In her project at the Vinter Biennal she intended to work with and document the process of freezing.
