As travel guide aficionados, we at Bearleader find Three Men in a Boat to be one of our favorite literary inspirations.
Jerome K. Jerome originally set out to write a middle-of-the-road travel guide, combining historical detail with his descriptions of the places he visited. But as Jerome’s journey unfolded, his experiences turned out to be much funnier than expected, and his travel guide quickly morphed into a more prestigious work: A classic novel was born.

Jerome, his two friends Harris and George, and their dog Montmorency, are great role models for how to pursue an adventure to the full: don’t plan too much, take your time, and treasure your friendships – those you have already and the new ones you acquire along the way.
