    About the Book

    Edit

This is a book about love of place. It tells the pictorial true story of a beautiful valley in the American west. It discusses the culture and history of the people who have lived and worked there, and how they have joined forces to oversee stewardship for the land in their care. The Washoe tribe lived lightly on this land for thousands of years by using hunting, harvesting, and cultivation practices that encouraged renewal of the valley's life sustaining resources rather than depleting them. Many species of wildlife have thrived on its bounty. These days, environmental organizations are working with local ranchers to establish conservation easements that protect the Carson River watershed and its wildlife. Sustainable, organic agricultural methods are being developed, implemented, and improved upon all the time. We reap the benefits of these efforts through the healthy foods we enjoy and vistas of open spaces that nurture our spirit and rival the beauty of any place on earth.

Cindy Leggett is a native Northern Californian whose creative purpose is to capture the beauty of nature through photography. Her goal is that her images provide aesthetic inspiration while enlightening her viewers of the importance of conservation and stewardship of our precious natural spaces. Over the years she has expressed her interpretation of nature through many earthy mediums, including basketry, fiber and jewelry arts, but more recently through the lens of her camera. Throughout the span of her working years and into retirement her inspiration has continued to grow along with an increased desire to spend more time in the outdoors. Pursuing the activities of hiking, wildlife viewing, fly fishing, geology and beachcombing reinforces her belief that by sharing her vision through photography she can provide public awareness of the human link to nature that nurtures the wild spirit in all of us.
