    About the Book

    Edit

I've been taking self-portraits for a while now. What began as a fun challenge turned into a compulsion. Or is it obsession? Perhaps a bit of both. This series is the 6th time I've done a year of daily self-portraits, the 4th time consecutively, and the 3rd consecutive themed.

When I set the theme for this series I imagined it would be something much different than it is. It was to be a peek deeper into my dark corners with what I hoped would be brutal honesty. It began something like that, but morphed into something else. You see, I was a poet once, and this series awoke that part of my brain. I began to write with more intention rather than as stream-of-consciousness. I wanted the writing to be more lyrical and while still very personal, lend itself to more universal themes.

Love. Hate. Fear. Sex. Death. It's all there.

Each self-portrait & corresponding writing were done on the same day. I wrote in a small notebook then took a picture of the writing using my phone. I opened both images in Photoshop, placed the writing image as an overlay over the self-portrait, then adjusted the opacity
