    The aim of this book is to investigate how language is used in Arabic magazines when addressing gender. This book applies Labov’s (1972), Lakoff’s (1975), and Talbot’s (1998) theories to test whether or not they can account for the language and gender situation in the Arab World. This essay investigates magazines’ use of language when targeting men and women separately. The essay takes Labov’s (1972) gender paradox theory into account to test if it is mirrored in the Arab World. The essay addresses if language is used differently to address each group, and if so, how it is used differently. Another variable this essay focuses on is the use of stereotypes in magazines. Do magazines describe men and women in a stereotypical manner? The question of whether magazine editors are aware of the gender differences and use the stereotypes to their advantage is examined in this essay as well.
