    About the Book

Come and chase the dream with George and Mary Ayers in the late 1970’s as they trace their yearlong route across Canada up into Alaska and then head down through Mexico to Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama. Chasing the Dream gives the reader a sense of their adventures along the way with descriptions drawn from their daily travel journals, letters home and photographs.

Along the way you'll get to visit small town Canada, seek out prairie relatives and travel the back roads across the country. Curiosity lures them northward into Canada's Yukon and into the late fall days of Alaska. Snowfalls drive them southward deep into Mexico where relationships falter, then reunite.

Together they discover the culture, history and architecture of Central America and explore the Mayan ruins of Tikal and Quirigua. By the time they reached Panama’s Darien Gap, they had abandoned their camper lifestyle and traveled with only maps and a backpack

    George Ayers
    Brampton, Ontario, Canada

George L. Ayers is an author and lifelong adventurer. George was born in Trail, British Columbia, spent his formative years on the Canadian prairies and grew up in small town Ontario. In the sixties the family moved to Australia, sailing around the globe on the great passenger ships of the day. Those early ocean voyages filled him with an indelible sense of exploration and curiosity that never faded. Since then, he has continued to travel extensively, backpacking across Central and South America and hiking the trail systems of Europe, Asia, and North America. In 2012 he published Chasing the Dream, which documents his experiences with Mary as they explored Canada and worked their ways south to Mexico and Central America. Buzzards and Bananas is his second book in an ongoing travelogue series. He currently resides in Brampton, Ontario, where he spends his time hiking and scribbling in his journal.
