My work, Ecclesia, is a photographic study based on my own theological question, “What is Church?” I have chosen the biblical image of “The Body of Christ” to be my guiding metaphor in my quest to discover for myself the meaning of the Christian church.

As “the body,” the church can be described as being physical, material, organic, and spiritual. The church is composed of physical objects with various geometric and architectural properties, but the church can also be seen as being composed of people (the original meaning of Ecclesia). But that is not all. The “Christ” in the body of Christ imagery suggests that there is something “divine” or “Christ-like” that transcends the material aspects of the church. Could it be that the church is more than just a building, more than a gathering of flawed individuals, and more than just a religious institution? How can “transcendence” and “spirituality” be captured photographically?

In this vein, my job is to explore these questions, find out how the “Christ” in the body of Christ is breathing together within His body so called a church and finally represent it visually through my photography in order to reveal the whole picture of Church.
