This catalogue documents Melanie Sunbeam Smith's "Bird & Bela in B" series (2000-2001) of ten mixed media works on paper inspired by Don Sebesky's jazz composition "Bird and Bela in Bb." Smith (who died in 2011) was a synesthetic who "saw" music as form and color, thus her visual artworks expressed her unique experience of the music. The catalogue was prepared to accompany the inaugural exhibition of the series at the Grand Gallery, Frankfort, Kentucky in 2015.
