Calcutta a colourful, chaotic, loud, difficult, scenic, booming, spectacular, poor, rich, busy, inspiring…….and bustling city at the east coast of India.
Former capital of British India, melting pot, place to hundreds of temples, mosques and churches, colonial heritage, ….
The Hoogly River, Howrah Bridge, Grand Oberoi Hotel, Victoria Memorial, Park Street, New Market, Kalighat Kali Temple, Marble Palace….
Yellow cabs, rickshaws, three wheelers, rusty busses, boats, …
…it is so much for all of our senses, so much more than we can digest during just one visit.
For me as a traveler it was just a scratch at the surface of this fascinating city and it certainly will not be the last time at the banks of River Hoogly.
As a photographer I tried to catch some of those moments that were special to me ….I do hope my photos will do a better job drawing a picture of Calcutta than any other page full of words can do.
