Nestled between an army surplus store and an American Apparel in Manhattan’s Lower East Side is a little boutique appetizing shop called Russ & Daughters. Purveyors in neat white jackets weigh caviar and lox, pistachio halvah and dried apricots, while New Yorkers and tourists alike pack in shoulder to shoulder, waiting for their ticket number to be called. While waiting for her usual, illustrator Mikayla Butchart occupied herself with a sketchbook and ink pens to create a collection of drawings done on location in the Russ & Daughters line.
