    About the Book

    Edit

My photographs focus on the traditional and colorful Bhutan. I tried to go back through the time machine that travel allows, for a glimpse of what might have once been Brigadoon.

What I found: An intensely Buddhist country where 10% of the people are monks and nuns … wonderful temples and stupas (sacred monuments) seemingly around every corner… medieval government compounds originally built as fortresses – dzongs – that also double as temples … beautiful hand woven fabrics and frightening masks … tiered rice paddies tucked into breathtakingly steep hillsides … intricately carved wooden buildings and houses with brightly painted windows and beams … rural homes with murals of giant spurting phalluses (a sign of wisdom or fertility depending on your source )… and the people, always open and friendly, smiling as I took their pictures.
