This unique book was created by the Wilkes Elementary School Multiage 4th grade students and was inspired via collaboration between art teacher Jill Queen, Seattle poet Vicky Edmonds, and teachers Elizabeth Vroom and Kristin Collins. Students began their projects by examining an animal or plant closely. Using elements of collage they constructed a colorful painting of their chosen specimen. Finally, they made an overlay to add scientific labeling to their artwork. After studying simile and personification and writing poems about nature, the students were then challenged to create a piece of writing or poetry to align with their art. The contents of this book was presented to an audience at Wilkes on June 15th, 2015.
