sky above is a children illustration book with a story that features the effects of revealing a child’s imagination while trying to retrieve the innocent view of childhood. The limitlessness of the imagination is the child’s unique gift, so this story is set in the sky, from where all cosmic phenomena can be imagined as the result of an act of a single being. The sun, the moon, the rain, and the rainbow are expanded as real characters living in the sky. Most of children’s picture books are comprised of flat 2-D illustrations. However this children’s book is a combination of mixed mediums. As I am proficient in puppet making, I have made my main character – the Rainbow Princess -- as a little felt puppet. The other characters remain as 2-D hand-drawings. The furry and “craft-feeling” of the Princess puppet also distinguishes her from other characters.
In addition, I include 3-D set objects with the other 2-D characters to complete the landscape in which these characters live. A lot of everyday items are shot as a part of the total illustration. I feel that the everyday-ness of the objects that comprise the story will allow the watching child a better understanding of the story and the world of the characters.
