About the Book
This book celebrates the beauty of the North Dakota prairie pothole country through over 425 quality photographs. The images included begin with the wildlife; bison, moose, deer, antelope, furbearers, birds, plants and insects. Photos covering history, farming, and ranching follow, along with a sampling of incredible prairie churches and vibrant prairie landscapes.
This book is more than the pictures, though. The book starts with a description of the changing of the seasons on the prairie. Following this, there is a summary of the geological sequence of events that created the Missouri Coteau that composes much of the prairie pothole country that we see today. A summary of the history of the area is included, along with comments on how this history has affected the landscape. Brief excerpts discussing abandoned farmsteads, migrating geese, and stargazing lead to a discussion of the upheaval the oil industry is causing to the area.
