Society has been known to judge and label its people based on their choice of appearance. This collection explores two of these aesthetic choices - men forgoing shaving to establish a mighty beard and women forgoing a subtle natural look for a striking red lipstick. Both choices have affected how the wearer has been seen by the
general public during different periods of our collective history. The beard for example has depicted wise, knowledgeable gentlemen, lovable hobos and rough and tumble criminals, while red lipstick has been associated with glamourous Hollywood starlets, 80s power executives and street workers. Do you think their choices have impacted upon their lives and careers? Does either choice make the wearer any more or less of a person? Does how you perceive these choices affect those who make their own aesthetic choices? Does it matter?
