About the Book
"I would rather cry in a BMW" said Ma Nuo, a twenty year old girl, in a chinese dating show on TV when she was asked if she would ride a bicycle with an unemployed candidate on a date. Later Ma pointed out she just wanted to reject her suitor in a creative way, but the line was soon picked up by the chinese blogoshphere as emblematic for the materialism of the young generation. China is currently changing unbelievably fast. Skyscrapers are built next to old houses where elderly people still take out their chamber pots in the morning. The span between rich and poor, city and countryside is vast.
