    About the Book

    Edit

"Connecting with Self, Others & A Sense of Wonder" is a compilation of 25 interviews conducted by Meg Pier over the course of seven years. The book features the experiences and insights of a diverse assortment of people Meg encountered as she embarked on a journey to rediscover her joie de vivre and discern her calling in a life that had become meaningless. The remarkable people Meg met shared their cultural traditions and spiritual practices, as well as their personal accounts of fear, disappointment, change, awakenings, transitions, courage, integrity, joy, and faith.

Among the fascinating figures who impart their life lessons are Cecile Duvelle, UNESCO's chief of intangible cultural heritage; the Duke of Argyll & Chief of Clan Campbell; Irma Thomas, the "Soul Queen of New Orleans;" linguist Mike Krauss; peace activist Arn Chorn Pond; as well as an Armenian woman helping to reforest the country and raise the quality of life there in the process; a Belize eco lodge owner; Maine lobster boat captain; Colombian dancer/choreographer; Celtic priest; Danish sky diver; New Mexico weaver; Kenyan eco architect; Icelandic artist; and many more extraordinary individuals.

Through the introductions that accompany each interview, Meg's own journey unfolds, revealing her transformation as a result of the life lessons offered by each of the people she encountered. Meg found that through relating to the struggles, foibles, humor, and hope of total strangers, she re-joined the human race. Recognition that her quest had come full circle came when she found herself listening as intently to a neighbor as she had to the far-flung “Guardian Angels” she so often met in her travels. In realizing that each and every one of us has profound experiences and enlightenment to offer each other, Meg had come “home” to herself.

A popular highlight of BCD is an ongoing interview column, which features fascinating folk Meg crosses paths with, sharing their experiences, perspective and wisdom.Inspired by the more than fifty interviews she conducted over five years, in 2013 Meg embarked on a new calling as a personal historian, helping people tell their stories, and reflect on the meaning and value of their life lessons and memories.
