About the Book
At one time Frank Julian Brown and William Addison Campbell, both formally trained, were museum exhibiting artists in San Francisco, California. In the 1950s both dropped out of the art community and never returned. Attempts to determine why this happened were unfruitful. The artists did continue to paint and this catalogue contains selected enlargements of their 796 paintings and at least a thumbnail of all the work that was found in their home of forty-five years when Frank Brown died in April of 2000. The text of the book attempts to provide a context for their lives and art.
