    About the Book

    Edit

The aim of this book was to represent all aspects of what the Mongolian Buddhists considered sacred. In it are photographs of breathtaking landscapes, captivating portraits, mesmerizing temples adorned with sacred scarves and sacred animals eloping across the steppe. I was voted 5th in Travel Photographer of the Year with four of the images contained in this book. The initial project and exhibition was born out of a collaboration of myself and a charity called the Tibet Foundation. The aim was to raise awareness of both Mongolia and its spiritual and cultural heritage, and the work that the Tibet Foundation does in Mongolia to help a Buddhist country come back to terms with its roots after a systematic spiritual and cultural dissemination by the communists over 70 yrs. This ended in the early 1990's. By which point something like 8 out of 800 monasteries still existed and most of the educated leity had disappeared. The culmination of the project was a touring exhibition of photographs in the UK and now 5 yrs later this beautiful book.
