Scott Jost, Associate Professor of Art, teaches photography and design at Bridgewater College, Bridgewater, Virginia. His work has been exhibited widely in the Midwest and Mid-Atlantic regions. Jost is the author of Blacks Run: An American Stream (Center for American Places, 1999) and contributing photographer to The Valley Road of Virginia: Its History, Landscape, and Architecture (forthcoming Univ of Virginia Press, 2010). In addition to Teaching through the Lens, Jost’s current projects include Shenandoah Valley Apples: Where History and Photography Meet, a photography and oral history project exploring the history, current conditions and possible futures of the Virginia apple industry (anticipated 2010 publication), and Car Captures (working title), which explores landscape and place through fleeting images taken from moving vehicles. A sabbatical leave project involving panoramic photographs of waterway confluences in the Chesapeake Bay watershed is currently being researched.
