This book is an attempt to investigate social aspects in the city of Dublin. Democratic photography is used as a methodological tool in this research. By looking at the 22 different postal code areas into which Dublin is divided, each district is represented by 5 people.

The portraits are seen as an attempt of expressing and understanding people’s social background in relation to the area they live in. Analysing the photographs themselves may not communicate people’s social background but subjects in the portraits, such as their look, style, expressions, belongings and the door behind them can give an insight when considering the data gained in the survey and the qualitative data obtained through an interview question.

This research gives an overview and impression of the neighbourhoods in the city. With your help, this work can be enlarged and used for demographic research in Dublin and can be applied to cities elsewhere.
