'The Songs of Bilitis' is a collection of photographs of the female nude and illustrates twenty-two poems by the 19th century French erotic poet and novelist Pierre Louÿs. Each poem is presented, in English translation, with the illustration on the facing page. Lesbianism is a frequent theme in Louÿs's work, and the book reflects this with its images of female couples and more.
