    About the Book

    Edit

The quaking aspen of Colorado are amongst the worlds largest living organisms. Groves, known as clonal colonies, are comprised of genetically identical trees sharing a common root system. Yet despite their shared genetic signature, each aspen tree is physically distinct due to the varying environmental forces that manipulate its growth.

This thesis draws from the aspen clone to develop a system of stations for a proposed maglev train through the Rocky Mountains. Like the aspen, each station sprouts from a common genetic template, but grows differently due to varying contextual influences. The result is a system of functionally identical yet physically distinct stations, which share and address the following goals:

    1. Attract ridership through the allure of iconic design
    2. Establish user familiarity between stations through a shared organizational template
    3. Catalyze growth for Transit Oriented Developments in the surrounding station area
    4. Reduce the power demands of the system as a whole
