About the Book
The books are made of Scottish oak, the library in a wall of dry stone; the aspect is southwest, exposed to both sun and rain, at a latitude of 57º north and an altitude of almost exactly 1,000 feet above sea level. The library lies in the divide between the Am Monadh Ruadh, the red hills and the Am Monadhliath, the grey hills, at the heart of the ancient Caledonian Pine Forest. It stands in the grounds of a very special place: “The Lodge”; Glenmore Lodge, in what was at one time a cared for garden of alpines and heathers, but what makes this library different is that it is outdoors.
