    About the Book

    Edit

This is a collection of mostly street photography, mostly unposed, mostly within 2 metres of the subject, mostly from the Boston area - the Boston of someone who lives here daily - mostly with a Leica D-LUX3 at 28mm, mostly without flash, always handheld. For a while I also used a Leica M6 Wetzlar, 50mm at f/1.4 on Kodak Portra 400, which was the best camera I've ever used. You will also find some images here from an iPhone 4, identified easily by the yellowish cast + rolling shutter distortion. What little processing there was came from Apple Preview. Almost no pixel-peeping. Definitely no HDR.

Just one image received the masterful + painstaking attention of architect Jens Kristian Seier in order to restore a Charles Correa building's sharp edge by removing an ugly light pole. And industrial designer Magnus Feil helped greatly with the scan of an old photo of Charlie Poser.

Public street photography is a canary in a coalmine and is vital for the preservation of democracy and the rule of law.

I hope you find these images of mostly fleeting moments, through a scientist's eye, interesting, different and pleasing. There are no artistic conceits here. It is what it is.

This book with it's 400 photographs also represents the best value for money when it comes to street photography books about boston and contains images in both colour and black + white.
