    About the Book

    Edit

There were all sorts of brigadistas in Nicaragua, groups of supporters from around the world who wanted to use their special skills to aid the Sandinistas in briging Nicaragua out of the fuedal state the Somozas and the US had imposed since before the first uprising of Sandino in 1927. Ben Lindner, the water specialist and clown, who was assassinated by the Contra was one of these brigidistas. In July 1979 the Sandinistas took control of Nicaragua and ended the decades long dictatorship and dynasty of the Somozas. Ten years later in '88 Sam Kerson joined the Boston based Arts for a New Nicaragua and went on a number of trips as a theatre artist and as a muralist, working especially in region four between Managua and San Juan del Sur. In this book you will find an account of one day in the life of a cultural worker visiting in the cities of Managua and Masaya in 1988.

    Trois-Rivières, Québec Canada

Kerson was born in 1946 in North Adams, Mass.; Pagan son of a Jewish family, white off-spring of America’s black history; man, born of an opinionated and outspoken woman, raised by a native American woman in an abandoned mill town; drilled in kindergarten to survive the coming A-bomb blasts; teen of the Vietnam war and acolyte of the psychedelic movement ; student of the new ethics, the new men and women and the revolution in the Americas; Sandinista, Artist. Ethical questions have always been the very sustenance of his intellectual and spiritual life. No wonder in 2006 he finally took up the question of capital punishment; grisly emblem of the long night of U.S. racism and class violence.
