About the Book
Visual artist, fine art photographer, filmmaker Robert Mack, conceived the NOT GUILTY BY REASON OF INSANITY project, where for two years he and other artists he invited were given the rare opportunity to interact with and present a compassionate look at the patients in an American maximum security hospital center for the criminally insane.
Curator Thomas Schirmbock writes, ”This exhibition is an extraordinary attempt to gain an understanding of an almost invisible part of society. The subject of this show, the criminally insane, is frightening, yet the photographs transform us with their human sensitivity.“
Robert Mack’s and Grace Zaccardi’s resulting portfolio, museum quality black and white silver gelatin photographs, received exhibitions at the Baltimore Museum of Art and at the Reiss-Engelhorn museum in Germany.
