    About the Book

    Edit

Candid photography of people in art galleries and exhibition spaces of Europe and North America. Forty-four high quality, mostly-color, photographs with captions and an introduction by the author. Most of the images are from London and Paris. People, when looking at art, absorbed in contemplation of the work, unwittingly and unselfconsciously reveal something of themselves also. People enjoy looking at art and often people also enjoy looking at pictures of people looking at art.

"Alan McQuillan's insightful images of regular people scrutinizing, pondering, and even embracing art in a broad range of contexts and well beyond the walls of galleries and museums, affirm the notion that art continues to seduce.” (H. Rafael Chacón, Professor of art history and criticism.)

“Many times Alan's candid documentary work reminds me of Cartier-Bresson's work except in color." (Neil Chaput de Saintonge, owner of Rocky Mountain School of Photography.)

"The results of his [McQuillan's] work display like pages of Life magazine." (Missoulian newspaper.)

    Alan McQuillan
Missoula, Montana, USA and Berkhamsted, England

In 2013 Alan won two awards from the prestigious International Photography Awards. He took First Place in the Panoramic category for a series of pictures from the Bakken Oil Field (the subject of a future book with Mountain Press). And his book, "Way Out: Street Photography Underground" received an Honourable Mention in the Self-Published Books category. Alan McQuillan began street photography in London during the 1960s and has lived in Montana for the last four decades. He says he simply likes to record what he sees as he moves around the city, using street photography's traditional method of shooting fast and unobtrusively with small cameras and especially Leica lenses. The Royal Photographic Society has made Alan an Associate based on his street photography. He has had solo shows as well as photographs selected for numerous juried shows and publications on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean.
