About the Book
Peat Island embodies a unique problem. A now defunct asylum on the Hawkesbury river with a stalled rezoning process, the island’s future is far from decided. Hy- per-rationalist in notion, the project is about advocating an architectural solution to a unique and challenging site. Hawkesbury High-rise establishes a need for a re-ex- amined manner of inhabiting the Hawkesbury and a commitment to funding public amenity through an investment in the built environment.
Characterized by performance - the settling ground between form and function, the project emerged from an investigative approach into the constraints and opportu- nities of an inherently complex and beautiful site. Hawkesbury High-rise concerns itself with the non-image of architecture; the pursuit of a silent architecture, that is receptive to the tracery of life and nature played out across it.
