    About the Book

    Edit

The history of the town of Port Angeles from the point of view of the son of the founder, Norman Smith. Victor Smith, his father, was a colorful figure during the American Civil War era. Appointed by Abraham Lincoln to be collector of Customs in the Pacific Northwest, these memories of Norman provide a rich and intimate look into the life of the pioneer families that settled the area of the Territory of Washington.
Norman has managed to make us see what the area looked and felt like during the 1850's all along the coast from Port Angeles to Los Angeles.
    Excellent reading.

    Chemainus, B.C., Canada

Born in San Francisco, CA. I came to Canada with my husband in 1969. I had no idea I was actually at least as connected to one country as the other! My interest in family history began when my 70 year old father asked me to try and find cousins he knew lived in B.C. Joining a genealogical society I sleuthed until I found my roots...and have accumulated many new cousins that have become friends. I have always wanted to share my findings, thus book form became my mode of choice. I am now retired and have dedicated my time to sifting through all the long years of research to distil into story. I hope others will also be interested in times and places past.
