Letters between the writer and teacher Tom McAfee and his student David Flynn, who also became a writer. The time period is the late 1960s through the 1970s, when McAfee was a creative writing teacher at the University of Missouri. The book begins with a section of photographs of McAfee taken by Flynn at Missouri. McAfee came from North Alabama, and often wrote of that area.
